Wishing you a “normal” 2015

If like me you find the period between Christmas and the New Year to be slightly odd, then you are not on your own.

It’s often a balance between being reflective, ticking over with some work and yet at the same time, looking forward to getting cracking with the New Year. No wonder social media channels are clogging up this week with predictions, top tips, lists and motivational quotes; a welcome distraction from ARF, sales and left over turkey perhaps?

And so we wait, anticipating the excitement of the start of a new calendar year and before you know it, everything gets back to “normal”. To me though, this raises a big question; why is it that somedays we jump out of bed full of energy and enthusiasm and yet somedays we don’t, somedays are just, well, “normal”?

Well it depends upon your definition of “normal” of course and herein lies a paradox. We are conditioned to accept that life is either good or bad, depending upon what is going on in our world, therefore too often;

New Year + fresh start = excitement and enthusiasm for a great day ahead
Mid January + dark frosty mornings = just one more snooze of the alarm clock please

So which is “normal”? Nothing has actually changed, only our thinking about our our world at that time. In other words, we decide what “normal” is, it’s a choice. This understanding was highlighted by Syd Banks and more recently by Michael Neil, “that we live in the feeling of our thinking, not the feeling of the world”. We don’t live in the feeling of the new year, we live in the feeling of our thinking about the new year.

So whilst it’s tempting to avoid jumping on the new year / new start bandwagon, let’s embrace it for what it is, an opportunity to press the reset button and choose what we want “normal” to be in 2015.

If you would like “normal” to be the best that it can be for both you and your business in 2015, we have created a series of business thinking exercises that are designed to grow and develop your dental business.
